It is the intent of the Greater Derry Track Club to make an annual scholarship award to worthy members of the club. The amount of the award and the number of awards depends on the financial health of the club and is determined annually by the GDTC officers.
The basis of the annual scholarship award is the number of points that the applicant earns by participation in the various Greater Derry Track Club events. Points are also awarded based on the applicant’s family participation and their long-term contributions to the club. Points are awarded for participation in college, high school or prep school running teams. Finally, points are awarded for running in local road races. The application process concludes with an essay question.
Minimum eligibility is that the family or individual must have been a member for one calendar year prior to the date of application. The final award decision is made by the GDTC officers or their appointed committee. No officer or committee member, related to any applicant, shall take part in the decision process or have any input to the process. The decision of the officers and/or committee is final.
The award will be presented at the club’s annual meeting/dinner, which is traditionally held prior to Thanksgiving. Deadline for application submittal is that the letter must be postmarked no later than midnight November 1 of year applying.
The application form will be posted on the website in advance, and all members will notified by email that it has been posted.
