The GDTC wishes to thank everyone for participating in the 32nd edition of the Kids Summer Fun Run Series.
We are proud to offer such a great experience for the youth of our area and also provide much needed food to the less fortunate in our area. We truly enjoy doing this and it is an expression of what our club is all about and that is to promote running at all level and experience.
If you enjoyed the series please feel free to spread the word about the series to all your friends, family or whomever you feel may benefit from what we are trying to accomplish.

When: June 28th , July 5th, 12th, 19th , 26th - August 2nd 2007
Time: Registration 6:00 pm Races start at 6:30 pm
Where: Pinkerton Academy Track Derry, NH
Who: All children ages 2 to 92
What: Donation of a nonperishable food product weekly
is all that is requested.
Members of the Greater Derry Track Club will lead stretching
exercises and offer running tips. Races are based on the
following age groups: 2-3 yr (50 meters), 4-6 yr (200m), 7-8 yr
(300m), 9-10 yr (600m), 11-13 yr (cross country mile), 14 yr &
up (1 mile race on track). Children will receive participation
ribbons each week. Water, Gatorade and watermelons will be
supplied each week. Ribbons provided by Derry Recreation and
runners who complete the series will receive medals and TShirts from GDTC.

The points system used is based on the position after the first five runs
1st place gets 4 points, 2nd place gets 3 points, 3rd place gets 2 points

Week 1 - June 28th
|
A threatening storm watch did not stop over 233 children to race the Greater Derry Track Club 32nd Annual
Kids Summer Fun Run held at the Pinkerton Academy Track in Derry. Donations of a nonperishable food
products are requested each of the 6 week series to help restock the local food banks. The children are
lead in stretching exercises and given running tips. The 2-3 year old run 50 meters, 4-6 year old run
200 meters, 7-8 year old run 300 meters, 9-10 year old run the 600 meters and the 11-13 year old run
the cross country mile. The 14 year old and up run the open mile on the track, bringing out local
high school fast runners. Children receive participation ribbons each week supplied by the Derry
Recreation Department. Water and Gatorade and watermelon are supplied each week. Runners who complete
the series will receive medals and T-shirts from GDTC.

Week 2 - July 5th
|
As a security measure the fun runs were cancelled due to threatening thunderstorms.
|

Week 3 - July 12th
|
The weather could not be better for running after last week's cancellation due to thunderstorms.
This week another 155 children signed up with the Greater Derry Track Club Kids Summer Fun Runs.
This brings it up to 388 children from the Greater Derry Area. All that is requested each week
is nonperishable food items to replenish the local food banks. This week the children donated
275 pounds of foot bringing the total up to 540 pounds of food so far.
The Derry Recreation Department supplies ribbons for all the participants. The Greater Derry
Track Club stretches out the children and has various races for each age group. Everyone is a
winner and water, Gatorade and watermelon was provided.

Week 4 - July 19th
|
The fun runs were cancelled due to heavy downpours.

Week 5 - July 26th
|
|
The heat did not stop the local runners for coming out to Pinkerton Track for a healthy run
and watermelon. 37 more children signed up today bring the total of 425 participants over the
3 weeks of races. Unfortunately the weather forced two cancellations this summer. The participants
continue to bring in more food for St. Thomas's food pantry in Derry. This weeks total was 140
pounds of food bring the total up to 680 pounds so far this summer. We will need a banner week next
week to break a thousand pounds of food for the season. August 2, 2007 will be the last week of
the series and all runners will receive an award for participation.
